About Psychological Testing

Psychologists are trained in assessment (also called testing or evaluations) to help their clients clarify diagnoses, understand their relative strengths and growth areas, and gain insight into personalized ways they can improve their social, academic, and career functioning.

Dr. Remanier offers testing in the following areas:

  • Cognitive functioning, including IQ/intelligence, memory, and executive functioning

  • ADHD

  • ASD

  • Mood disorders

  • Personality disorders

  • Academic ability (not covered by most insurance plans)

The Testing Process

  • Please use the Contact Form to be added to the testing waitlist. I am currently booking testing clients for September 2026.

  • You will receive a bundle of forms to complete online, including more detailed policies related to testing, insurance information, intake questionnaires about past treatment and testing you may have received, and some initial psychological screeners about the symptoms you may be currently experiencing.

Dr. Remanier will review these intake forms before scheduling, and will use this information to:

    • tailor the planned psychological tests to be most useful to you

    • request any additional records from previous medical professionals you have met with

    • check your insurance coverage for testing

After receipt of this paperwork, and any additional records necessary for the testing process, you will be scheduled for three meetings: an intake session, testing, and a feedback session. We aim to schedule these sessions 1-2 weeks apart; this process may take longer if additional meetings are required (for example, if we add a second day of testing, need to consult with other providers you have seen, or collect collateral data from another parent, teacher, etc.).

  • Meet with Dr. Remanier at her Westlake office for a one-hour initial appointment to gather a more detailed psychosocial history. Parents are invited to attend with their children.

  • Typically scheduled for 1-2 weeks after the intake appointment, you can expect to spend one or two 3-4 hour testing blocks with Dr. Remanier at her Westlake office. Testing is typically done on the same day, with a break for lunch, but we will discuss at the intake appointment if there are circumstances that call for spreading testing out over two days.

  • 2-3 weeks after testing, you will be scheduled for an hour long feedback session with Dr. Remanier, either virtually or at her Westlake office. You will be provided with a written report detailing the results of your testing and Dr. Remanier’s recommendations (for future treatment, work, or academic settings). While you will have the written report to keep, this session is a chance to go over the results thoroughly, ask questions, and understand what it all means.

FAQs

  • Testing costs $250/hour and requires a $500 deposit to begin. The exact number of hours will vary by individual, but between the scheduled meetings, collateral interviews, records review, and report-writing, you can expect the entire process to take 10-16 hours for most individuals.

If Dr. Remanier is in network with your insurance plan, and that plan covers testing, your cost may be significantly reduced. You may pay only an hourly copay/coinsurance, or pay into your annual deductible until it is met. Dr. Remanier will do an initial check of your benefits, but you are responsible for understanding your plan and costs fully.

Please see the Insurance/Fees page for more information, including questions you can ask your insurance company to better estimate your cost.

  • The average testing client can expect to spend:

    • 1-2 hours completing online intake paperwork and questionnaires

    • 1 hour in an intake appointment

    • 4-8 hours testing in person

    • 1 hour in a feedback session

  • After you have completed intake paperwork, including providing any request records from past treatment or testing, if applicable, you will be scheduled for your intake, testing, and feedback sessions. At the feedback session, you’ll receive a written report of your results and recommendations. We aim to have this process (from intake to final feedback) scheduled within 4-6 weeks. This may be delayed if we need to schedule additional sessions, are delayed in completing collateral interviews, etc.

  • Testing aims to gain as much diagnostic clarity as possible, but no specific diagnosis is guaranteed. Sometimes, even after thorough testing, there are still several possible diagnoses, or diagnoses that someone doesn’t quite meet formal criteria for. Dr. Remanier works to help you understand her conclusions and personalized recommendations as fully as possible, so that they can still be useful for your personal, professional, or academic development.
